The UMMSA hosted its 35th Annual Conference from November 14-16, 2025, at the University of Manitoba’s Fort Garry campus, welcoming students and community members alike for a weekend of learning, reflection, and community connection.

Having the overaching theme of Reclaiming Our Muslim Identity, the conference explored what it means to live, practice, and grow as Muslims in contemporary Western contexts. Through lectures, workshops, and panel discussions, attendees engaged with topics such as spiritual grounding, community responsibility, resilience, and navigating faith in public and professional spaces.

The conference featured keynote lectures and interactive sessions by speakers such as Ustadh Abu Ibrahim of i3 Institute, balancing the various contexts impacting Muslim identity; Ustadha Mariyam Mohammad, who addressed sisters in topics such as living authentically and concepts surrounding modesty; and Sheikh Shoaib Wardak, Religious Director at Masjid Dar-ul-Imam, whose sessions focused on Prophetic guidance, community resilience, and applying faith to everyday life.

In addition to lectures, the weekend included several panel discussions, notably a Reverts Panel that highlighted diverse faith journeys and lived experiences of embracing Islam, as well as a Muslim Professionals Panel that explored navigating careers while maintaining Islamic values. These discussions created space for open dialogue, reflection, and audience engagement.

The conference also featured a Qur’an recitation and nasheed performance by students from Iqra Islamic School, helping to emphasize the role of youth in community life.
